Thoughtful Donation from VM Money Transfer Services Boosts Sports Programme at New Day Primary and Junior High School

More students at the New Day Primary and Junior High School in St Andrew are set to benefit from involvement in sports, thanks to a timely donation from VM Money Transfer Services Limited.  The entity, in collaboration with the Jamaica Chapter of the school’s alumni association, facilitated the gifting of a quantity of footballs and netballs to the sports department.  The handing over took place on November 12, 2024.

CEO of VM Money Transfer Services, Michael Howard, himself a past student of the institution, emphasized that contributing to the development of schools and communities has always been a focus of the organisation’s philanthropic efforts.

“As a remittance agency, we are aware of the significant role we play in facilitating the development of communities and the nation in general.  We continue to see tremendous value in taking it a step further, partnering with agencies and individuals, especially those in areas considered vulnerable, to help transform lives,” he said. “This recent donation is only an extension of our support for the school and is in addition to other initiatives which we have been involved in across the community. We are very deliberate about playing our part in supporting activities that foster wholesome development, and so we are pleased to be able to support the school in this way.”

In expressing his gratitude, Garfield McDonald, Principal of the New Day Primary and Junior High School, said: “Schools located in vulnerable inner-city communities usually face significant risk of being marginalised due to the limited resources of the parents of students.  This donation will allow us to give more students the opportunity to be involved in our physical education and sports programme, using it as an outlet for positive expression and transformation.  We thank VM for looking out for the interest of our students over the years and look forward to more partnerships in the future.”

The VM Money Transfer Services team previously donated new and used computers to the school and there are plans in place to offer more support in other areas in the near future.
